A lot of new artist made their debut and a few semi-new artist made their claim as well in 2009. Now a few of them I like, a few I can tolerate, and few just need to hang it up or disappear.

Shorty is slept on in my opinion. I like her sound and I think
people really need to tune in before we lose another promising songstress.
love to see you go
Don’t get me wrong I like Kerry. She’s a talented writer and artist. However, she turned me off with the “I got next” attitude. It’s all good to have confidence in yourself but when you start acting like you deserve the recognition that Beyonce and Rihanna gets then you got your prove yourself worthy and her “first weak sales” didn’t.

With probably the R&B song of the year Jeremiah has a promising young future. It’s too bad his second single didn’t hit as big as his first. If he doesn’t keep it up, he could be heading down that Bobby Valentino route.

I hope his career goes “down, down, down”.
I never want to hear another song from him again, nuff said…

Hit after hit this Akon protégé stays consistent. All of her songs stay in heavy rotation and just when you about to get sick and tired of her singe she comes out with a new hit single that was just as catchy as the previous one. She’s like 6 for 6 with her singles. It seems like she can’t miss. Lets see if the year 2010 is as good to her as 09 was.

I heard his album was good but what I heard so far I can tell you I heard enough. He’s not what hip-hop really needs right now.

Lil Kim knock-off or not I’m still felling Nicki Minaj, probably the only one from the young money camp that catches my interest. Her sound and look is unique and her exposure is crazy. No other female rap star is more current or popular. With a career that at time seemed like it could fly by night, Nicki is showing staying power, well at least for the time being.

Brooklyn stand up, wait not so fast. Although Maino has a promising future and is what the game really needs right now is debut album only sold 18,000 copies. I know sales aren’t everything but I expected fans to support him a little bit more. One of the few rappers that can talk it and back it up “PAUSE” I feel we need to not let him slip through the cracks “PAUSE”.

This has got to be one of the most non-quotable MCs you will ever hear. He has had and been on major songs that came out in 09. His popularity keeps gaining but his bid in jail might either boost it or help it fizzle out. As a Blackman it hurts me to say this but I hope he stays locked up!!

“It’s that dirty money”. Leave it up to Diddy to be innovative in a time of repetition. Rarely do you see a group consisting of a two girls and a boy. It’s different and I like what I’m hearing so far. Waiting to see what the album sounds like.

I respect the fact that he’s just trying to be himself, not Eminem or any other of his white rapper predecessors. However, I just don’t feel his commercial music. He should just do freestyles and stay underground.

U go girl!! We first got introduced to this Strong Island native songstress back in 07 with features on hooks of major singles like Jay-Z’s “Lost One” and Nas’s “Cant Forget About You”. Now I know she is not a newcomer but she did make her mark this year with her album “Epiphany” which did beat out Ciara’s “Fantasy Ride” for the #1 spot. With singles like “What You Do”, “Faille”, and “Epiphany” she is on pace to be a long lasting artist.

Over saturation is not a good thing. It’s sad when you are listening to the radio and they cut they cut Drake’s verse or song short to go to commercial break and you feel some sort of relief. I hear this guy everywhere and this Kanye swag rip off is the opposite of what we need in to save hop-hop.
